We're kicking the new year featuring a Children's Art Project artist, Kate. In August 2016, Kate received a diagnosis of Burkitt's lymphoma. She endured a five-month-long chemotherapy treatment at MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital and was eventually declared cancer-free.

During her hospital stay, Kate engaged in the Children's Art Project (CAP), discovering an outlet
for her creativity and self-expression. Reflecting on her experience, she says, "Children’s Art
Project gave me an outlet to be creative and explore. I was able to keep my mind and body engaged without overwhelming myself." Today, Kate continues to integrate art into her life, including dance and theatre.

Now a high school student, Kate is involved in her school's theatre program. She also enjoys modeling, dance and working in diverse leadership roles. Notably, Kate has added the skill of aerial silks to her repertoire. She even earned the distinction of being a "Top 50" donor for
two consecutive years at MD Anderson's annual Boot Walk.

Kate's childhood was enriched by her time spent in Germany from 2012 to 2016, contributing to her diverse background. Her remarkable journey includes being featured in a dyslexia exhibit at The Health Museum in Houston, highlighting her resilience and achievements. Additionally, she
participated in the 2023 Teen Medical Summit, further exemplifying her commitment to personal
growth and community engagement.

Kate aspires to become a pilot and master her aerial silks. Her life is a testament to the power of the human spirit. Despite facing a challenging diagnosis at an early age, she not only survived cancer but also discovered her passion for art through the Children's Art Project.
